The Story of an Accident
Forum Interactive delivers Leadership and Safety Culture Event for 140 Scottish House Builders
We delivered another session to 140 Directors and Senior Managers for the Scottish House Builders Health and Safety Forum www.shbforum.co.uk
Once again, the session took place in Ratho at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena.
The difference on this occasion, was working in partnership with the Health and Safety Executive and the Law firm BTO Solicitors.
Forum Interactive created a story based on case files from BTO which presented the circumstances of an accident:
- specifically explore the influence of the senior management decisions;
- the resultant behavioral attitude of the site team;
- the actions taken by individuals which then contributed to the accident;
- the impact and aftermath;
Mark Carroll detailed the HSE investigation procedure and thought process which may follow and gain an understanding of the decision-making process, the regulatory functions and the legal requirements of their potential criminal investigation.
Clare Bone (Criminal) and Carly Forrest (Civil) from BTO, then examined the potential consequences of both criminal and civil proceedings in detail, looking to avoid the pitfalls and highlighting defence strategies where a collaborative approach could benefit both companies and insurers in the court room and beyond.
Following the Story of an Accident presentations, Dylan Skelhorn from Safety Up www.safetyup.co.uk presented his own story detailing the real-life circumstances of his own serious accident and the life changing effects on him and his friends and family.
This mixed approach with the Forum Interactive scenario as the reference point for expert HSE and Legal input was extremely effective and very well received by the delegates.
