Our story-based resources incorporate facilitation guides and experiential exercises to help you generate lively and purposeful discussion in your own staff and development workshops. You will find some examples below, but we will develop tailor-made resources to meet your needs.

Film

A story told on film can be accessed via a DVD, the internet or your organisation's intranet. Some examples are:

Who Cares? is a DVD resources available free to NHS Scotland staff. You can view the video files and download the facilitation guide by going to the Little Things Make a Difference.

Ilene's Story is a DVD resource (and facilitation guide) designed to support health care staff to see their work in terms of delivering a service. It is available for you to purchase, please contact us for further details.

Audio

In our visually dominated world, we can forget how wonderful it is to hear the human voice telling us a story. Audio resources can be created for relatively little cost and are very effective in delivering key messages. Some examples are:

Night and Day was devised to disseminate the findings of research into night time care. There is so much investment made in research and yet those people with the power to make changes on the ground often do not find out about it. An audio play makes research widely available, accessible and is far more enjoyable than reading a whole lot of text.

You could test the effectiveness of this approach yourself by listening to the play and then making a list of what you think the research findings are. You can then check your list against the research summary.

Catch My Eye raises issues about the relationship between staff and patients/visitors in health care settings. The play presents a failure of contact between two worlds.

Multimedia

Imagine engaging your staff with a variety of media through which a story is told and, in the telling of that story, they learn and apply that learning to their work practice.

Foul Whisperings was devised to prepare delegates in advance for a conference they were attending on storytelling in organisations. The narrative was built over the six weeks running up to the conference. Each week delegates were sent an episode of the story told through videos and text downloads. The episode was accompanied by an article addressing an aspect of storytelling and an exercise to help delegates to reflect on their own experience. They were then encouraged to share their thoughts on a blog. The final episode of the story was told at the conference itself, in the form of live theatre. These episodes can be viewed here.

Facilitation Aids

Over the years we have put together a range of resources (in the form of tips or workshop outlines) to support facilitators. These are organised under Tips for Serious Play where you will find instructions on how to use particular drama games and exercises.

If you have a particular query, then we will do our best to come up with something that will do the trick.
