“I could relate each of the characters to people here, including myself...”
Stuart’s Football is s story about a mother’s efforts to get her young son a nursery place. Her experience is unusual because Stuart is autistic and his behaviour often attracts negative judgement from adults: he tends to be seen as ‘naughty’ and ‘disruptive’. One nursery manager discovers how to look beyond his ‘difficult’ behaviour and make contact with Stuart. This understanding is symbolised by Stuart’s football which he takes with him everywhere. This play explores the diversity issues for those who work with children and young people.
